Need a pick me up? Try a local Ottawa treat!
When I need to find a gift for someone in my life, or a little pick me up, my first stop is local shops like Pot & Pantry, The Gifted Type, Maker House, and The Village Quire. I know I can find two things: fantastic local gifts and smiling shop owners. If you’re going through a separation or know someone who is, consider picking up a treat for Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re looking for a gift for a friend going through a hard time, or a gift for yourself, I’m betting one of these Ottawa gifts will hit the spot!
A relaxing bath is a great way to unwind at the end of the day! Or you can grab some yummy smelling soap for a treat in the kitchen. Either way, you can’t go wrong at Purple Urchin, a local Ottawa store that specializes in natural bath and body products. Stop by their Bank Street store for some bath salts or rosemary mint hand soap (my favourite!). They even have products for your pets!
Sometimes we all need a little inspiration close at hand. Infinite Purpose Jewelry repurposes antique silverware flatware, and hand stamping it to create inspirational jewelry and witty accessories. How about a pendant that says, “the best is yet to come” or a sugar spoon that reminds you, “I wake up awesome”.
Looking for something for your sweet tooth, or a night off from cooking? Red Apron is right down the street from our office. From homemade baked goods and take home dinners, to local cookbooks and house-made preserves, you’ll find something there. When clients have time before or after a meeting at our office, I encourage them to take a moment for themselves with a cup of tea and a treat at this shop.
Campy Candles are 100% natural soy wax candle made in Almonte. I love their clever names, beautiful packaging and beautiful smells. They burn for 40+ hours. My favourite part? The wax puddles instead of tunnelling, so the whole candle will burn to nothing (and look beautiful while it does it!. They even have one that smells like a fresh start!
You can find Campy Candles at The Village Quire! When I’ve had a hard day, sometimes I just like to browse the lovely products at The Village Quire, and chuckle at the “Cheeky & Offensive” section. Head over and visit Molly, one of the friendliest shop owners I know! She’ll help you get the perfect card to go with your Valentine’s Day gift.
Last but certainly not lease, to some people it wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without flowers. My favourite Ottawa flower shop is definitely Rebel Petal. It is worth the drive to Manotick to see Michelle’s beautiful store. Pick up a Rebel Cup and a Hinza bag (trust me, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without one!) and browse the gift selection, then treat yourself to lunch down the street at The Black Dog. Rebel Petal also delivers to Ottawa, and can make a stunning arrangement for any occasion.
